At Emsa, sustainability is more of a journey than a destination. We walk this path with a daily commitment to making a positive impact on our environment, people, and industry. We approach it with humility and self-reflection, fully aware that while there’s still much to be done, we strive to improve every day.
With the release of our 2023 Sustainability Report, we not only reaffirm our ongoing dedication to sustainability but also highlight the efforts, areas for improvement, and achievements we’ve made over the past year.
Throughout 2023, we reviewed our activities to keep moving toward more sustainable practices and to continue the commitments made in 2022. This included the implementation of our first sustainability strategy, the creation of our first sustainability report, conducting a double materiality analysis, and aligning ourselves with the SDGs.
Highlights of 2023
Driving the circular economy
In 2023, 9.82% of the products sold by Emsa came from the circular economy, far exceeding our 6% goal and doubling last year’s figure. We focused particularly on the agricultural sector, where 43% of the tons sold were derived from circular economy products.
Progress in renewable energy consumption
We reached 66.10% renewable energy consumption, up from 25.56% the previous year, marking a significant step forward in our goal to reduce our carbon footprint.
Sustainability certifications and recognition
We renewed our ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications, expanding them to our subsidiaries, and once again earned a silver medal in the EcoVadis sustainability ranking, placing us in the top 14% of the most sustainable companies in our sector for 2023.
Social commitment and workplace health
At Emsa, we promoted job stability by achieving a 91.76% rate of permanent contracts in 2023. We also improved employee well-being by continuing initiatives such as providing fresh fruit in our offices and sponsoring sport programs.
Our sustainable vision
“We continue to move forward with commitment, determination, and responsibility, ensuring that every step we take aligns with our goal of making a positive and lasting impact in people, the environment, and the industry itself.” – Jorge Grima, CEO of Emsa Tecnología Química.
