Keep soil alive. World Soil Day 2020

05 December 2020

GENERAL, LIFE SCIENCE

Today, on World Soil Day, we want to talk about the importance of caring for our land and using it responsibly. At Emsa, we have developed a range of technologically advanced formulas that help the agricultural sector improve crop yields while also protecting our health and the earth.

EMSAFUL
  • Helps strengthen plants (leaves and shoots).
  • Stimulates flowering, fruit formation, and growth.
  • Facilitates and increases the absorption of nutrients from the soil and leaves.
  • Promotes faster and more uniform fruit ripening.

Why soil is key to a sustainable future for the planet

  • It may not seem as obvious as green forests or as vital as fresh water, but seemingly unremarkable soil is a natural resource just as crucial for sustaining life on Earth.
  • Soil provides plants and trees with nutrients, water, and minerals, stores carbon reserves, and hosts billions of insects, small animals, bacteria, and many other microorganisms.

However, the amount of fertile soil on the planet is decreasing at an alarming rate, jeopardizing farmers’ ability to grow food to supply the global population, which is expected to reach nine billion by 2050. Food production begins with soil. Composed of minerals, water, air, and organic matter, soil provides the primary nutrient cycle for plants and animals. It is the foundation for food, fuel, fiber, medical supplies, and many other essential natural resources.

The quality of our food largely depends on the quality of our soil.

The use of inefficient agricultural practices, such as extensive plowing, poor organic matter recovery, over-irrigation with low-quality water, and excessive use of herbicides and pesticides, depletes soil nutrients faster than they can be replenished. This results in soil fertility loss and degradation.

Farmers often ask: Why are the berries small, sour, or poorly colored? Why is the ripening delayed, or why does the vine fail to mature properly? The answer to this question lies in balanced nutrition, water, sunlight, and warmth.

Soil always contains nutrients. However, no matter how nutrient-rich it may be, it inevitably becomes depleted due to the continuous removal of crops. Soil nutrients are extracted with each harvest and are not returned to the soil. As a result of the disruption of the nutrient cycle in vineyards and orchards, the soil becomes exhausted.

The lack of nutrient replenishment in the soil weakens plants and reduces yields. That is why it is essential to feed our soil correctly and responsibly. Using organic products for agriculture not only helps increase yields but also protects our soil.
